Supporting Learning, Identity, and Opportunity for Kivalliq Inuit

The Education Fund is a dedicated funding program created under the Sapuulutaq Bylaw to help Inuit in the Kivalliq Region access learning opportunities that build confidence, strengthen cultural identity, and support long‑term success. The Fund is designed to reduce barriers to education and create flexible, culturally grounded pathways for youth and adult learners.

The Fund is guided by a simple belief: Every Inuit learner deserves the chance to grow, succeed, and feel proud of who they are.

The Education Fund helps Inuit learners:

• Build readiness for further education or training
• Strengthen Inuktitut language, cultural knowledge, and identity
• Gain confidence in reading, writing, math, and digital skills
• Explore career pathways and prepare for employment
• Access flexible learning opportunities that fit their needs

All funding must support the development of Inuit identity and pride, including access to Inuktitut learning, cultural knowledge, and intergenerational mentorship.

The Fund is not the same as KIA’s Post‑Secondary Education Program or Scholarship Program. Instead, it fills important gaps by supporting shorter, transitional, or community‑based learning opportunities — especially for youth and adults who need additional preparation before entering post‑secondary programs or the workforce.

What the Education Fund Can Support

All activities must fall under one or more Education Investment Areas:

• Educational Foundations – Supports youth and adults completing high school or adult education. Examples: mentoring, after‑school skill workshops, homework groups, basic literacy and numeracy support.

• Transitional Learning & Readiness – Helps learners build confidence and prepare for further education or training. Examples: study skills, academic readiness, goal‑setting workshops, adult learning refreshers.
• Digital & Remote Learning Support – Improves access to devices, internet, and digital learning tools. Examples: laptops/tablets, mobile internet devices, digital literacy workshops, community‑led digital content.

These areas reflect what communities have asked for: more support for readiness, more cultural learning, and better access to tools that help learners succeed.

The Education Fund strengthens Inuit self‑determination by supporting learning that is:

• Culturally grounded
• Flexible and accessible
• Community‑driven
• Focused on long‑term success

It helps learners build confidence, strengthen identity, and take meaningful steps toward their future — whether that means finishing high school, exploring trades, learning new digital skills, or preparing for post‑secondary education.

The Fund is a commitment to supporting Inuit learners at every stage of their journey.
