Sapuulutaq Fund
Building a Strong Future for Kivalliq Inuit
The Sapuulutaq Fund (previously known as the Legacy Fund) is a historic milestone for the Kivalliq Inuit Association. It represents years of planning, community engagement, and careful stewardship. The Fund strengthens Inuit leadership and decision‑making. It places financial stewardship closer to the people it is meant to serve and supports long‑term regional well‑being.
How it Works
The Sapuulutaq Fund reinvests mining royalty revenues back into our communities by supporting programs that strengthen culture, education, community wellness, and long‑term regional growth. These actions will ensure that Kivalliq Inuit can achieve economic self‑sufficiency over time, in a way that honours Inuit societal values, cultural needs, and long‑term aspirations.
- Thinking beyond today — planning for future generations
- Working together — decisions shaped by community voices
- Caring for the collective good — benefits shared across all communities
The Sapuulutaq Fund is designed to support both long‑term savings and year‑over‑year community benefits:
- Long‑term savings objective: The Fund invests designated revenues to generate consistent, positive investment returns. These returns help build long‑term financial strength for future generations.
- Spending objective: The Legacy Fund supports Inuit social and cultural needs by delivering predictable, positive benefits every year. Funding focuses on community priorities and reducing education‑related barriers to long‑term prosperity.
Together, these objectives ensure that the Fund grows responsibly while providing meaningful support to Kivallirmiut today.
