Sapuulutaq Community Initiatives Fund

Supporting Strong, Healthy, and Resilient Kivalliq Communities

The Community Initiatives Fund is one of the main ways the Sapuulutaq Fund delivers benefits directly to Kivalliq communities. It provides long‑term, sustainable funding for projects that strengthen culture, wellness, economic opportunity, and community services across the region.

The Fund is grounded in Inuit values, guided by community priorities, and designed to ensure that all Kivalliq communities benefit in a fair and transparent way.

The Community Initiatives Fund exists to support the long‑term social, cultural, and economic well‑being of Kivalliq Inuit. It helps communities address local needs, build capacity, and deliver projects that create positive, lasting change.

What the Fund Can Support

All projects must fall under one or more Community Investment Areas. These areas reflect Inuit priorities and the needs identified through community engagement:

  • Inuit Employability & Economic Development – Supports job creation, skills training, entrepreneurship, and economic opportunities for Inuit.
  • Cultural Protection & Revitalization – Strengthens Inuit language, traditional knowledge, cultural pride, and intergenerational learning.
  • Community Wellness & Resilience – Improves mental, physical, and social well‑being through programs that support healing, connection, and healthy communities.
  • Community Infrastructure & Services – Invests in shared spaces, essential services, technology, and community facilities that improve quality of life.
  • Environmental Stewardship & Sustainability – Supports conservation, climate resilience, renewable energy, and Inuit‑led stewardship of land and waters.

Building Long‑Term Benefits for Kivalliq Inuit

The Community Initiatives Fund is more than a funding program. It is a commitment to:

  • Equity and fairness
  • Transparency and accountability
  • Inuit‑centred decision‑making
  • Long‑term prosperity for all Kivalliq communities

By investing in community priorities year after year, the Fund strengthens local capacity, supports cultural and social well‑being, and helps build a strong future for Kivalliq Inuit.
