President’s Scholarship: Recognizes Inuit students who demonstrate outstanding
academic achievement, cultural commitment, and social contributions within their communities.
Recipients of the scholarship embody Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit (IQ) principles, striving for excellence
in their education while serving as role models for their peers and contributing positively to their
communities.
Ukkusiksalik Scholarship: The Kivalliq National Parks Scholarship Trust provides scholarships for Inuit students pursuing
education or training in one of the following fields:
i. Traditional ecological knowledge
ii. Archaeology, anthropology, history, sociology and other social sciences
iii. Biology, geography, geology, and other natural sciences
iv. Renewable resource management, including: wildlife management, geographic information
systems, remote sensing, or environmental technology
v. Administration, including business management, financial management, accounting,
bookkeeping, or human resource management
vi. Nursing, engineering, management, or economics
Meliadine Scholarship: preference is given to students who express interest in a mining-related field, including
apprenticeships, and mechanical or aircraft related disciplines. Students must be enrolled in fulltime
studies for both September and January semesters.
Whale Tail: Preference is given to students who express interest in a mining-related field. KIA also extends
preference to students who wish to attend Nunavut Sivuniksavut, Northern Teacher Education
Program, Culinary Arts programs, Child and Youth Care, and Interpreter/Translator programs.
Students must be enrolled in full-time studies for both September and January semesters.
Canadian Heritage Rivers scholarship: Limited to Inuit applicants from Baker Lake who are pursuing education or
training in one of the following fields:
i. Traditional ecological knowledge
ii. Archaeology, anthropology, history, sociology and other social sciences
iii. Biology, geography, geology, and other natural sciences
iv. Renewable resource management, including: wildlife management, geographic information
systems, remote sensing, or environmental technology
v. Administration, including business management, financial management, accounting,
bookkeeping, or human resource management
vi. Tourism
Scholarships
These awards encourage students to excel academically, honor their cultural heritage, and contribute meaningfully to their communities. Funded through various agreements, including partnerships with government and private entities, KIA’s scholarships are structured to help reduce the financial barriers Inuit students face while pursuing their studies.
