5‑Year Strategic Plan Framework
Moving Forward Together
The Kivalliq Inuit Association’s 5‑Year Strategic Plan Framework is a roadmap that reflects the priorities, values, and hopes of Inuit across the Kivalliq Region. It outlines the areas where KIA will focus its efforts to improve well‑being, protect Inuit rights, and support a strong future for the Kivalliq Region.
Our Five Priority Areas
These five priority areas reflect what Inuit told us matters most. Each area includes goals and actions that will guide KIA’s work over the next five years.

1. Culture & Language
Strengthening Inuit identity by expanding language programs, cultural activities, traditional skills training, and community‑led knowledge sharing. KIA will continue year‑round Inuktitut programming and work toward re‑establishing the Inuit Cultural Institute.

2. Food Security & Inuit Stewardship
Supporting harvesters, strengthening conservation, and expanding Inuit stewardship programs — including the region‑wide Guardians Program announced in 2025. This work helps ensure Inuit have access to country food, safe harvesting equipment, and community‑driven conservation.

3. Community Health & Childcare
Improving mental health supports, childcare options, and community wellness programs. KIA is working with partners to expand early childhood education, support daycare operators, and explore new models like Montessori‑based childcare.

4. Infrastructure & Economic Development
Creating opportunities through housing, jobs, clean energy, and business development. This includes advancing the Kivalliq Hydro‑Fibre Link, an Inuit‑led, nation‑building project that will bring renewable energy and fibre‑optic connectivity to the region.

5. Advocacy & Business Relationships
Strengthening relationships with government, industry, and partners to ensure Inuit priorities are respected, funded, and implemented. KIA advocates for better procurement policies, stronger Inuit employment, and transparent decision‑making across the region.
Our Commitment to Kivallirmiut
KIA is accountable to Inuit in the Kivalliq Region. We protect Inuit‑owned lands, support cultural resilience, advocate for community needs, and work to ensure Inuit benefit from development.
